What a pleasant sight, as I dig myself out of another New York City snowpocalypse. My story, "The Only Child's Voice," is now live in the February 2014 issue of Gravel.
As an only child (and grandchild on both sides), I grew up with a different perspective on who - or what - was family. The story explores my deeply personal relationship with my baby grand piano. As I grappled with change, the music put a voice to what I could not say, but it also became a crutch. The piece tracks my journey of learning how to truly speak on my own, while hoping not to abandon one of my closest relationships forever.
Yeah, yeah, it's a little serious. But stuff gets real every once in a while, right?
Enjoy.
