Guys and gals, I am so proud to have this piece published in the October issue of Hippocampus Magazine. "Together, in Orange" is a story about my relationship with my Pop-Pop and how we fostered that relationship through sports: the Philadelphia Flyers, and later, the Florida Gators. But really, it's a celebration of him, his life, and the friends who love him. I learned a lot about the importance of community from this man.
I am pleased to share my essay, "If the Shoe Fits," published in Paper Tape magazine today.
The piece documents my efforts to fix my self-diagnosed "style execution problem" in the months leading up to my September wedding. Ultimately, the solution to my problem (or lack thereof) was right in front of me - for nine years. Fashion meets self-deprecating humor. Enjoy this light foray into a manic bride's life. What a pleasant sight, as I dig myself out of another New York City snowpocalypse. My story, "The Only Child's Voice," is now live in the February 2014 issue of Gravel.
As an only child (and grandchild on both sides), I grew up with a different perspective on who - or what - was family. The story explores my deeply personal relationship with my baby grand piano. As I grappled with change, the music put a voice to what I could not say, but it also became a crutch. The piece tracks my journey of learning how to truly speak on my own, while hoping not to abandon one of my closest relationships forever. Yeah, yeah, it's a little serious. But stuff gets real every once in a while, right? Enjoy. I am stoked for my fellow lady-lawyer-turned-writer, Jules Barrueco, who published her essay, "Uptown," on one of my favorite sites, Mr. Beller's Neighborhood. It's a great spot for personal, well-told New York City stories.
Check it out, and check her out! I am thrilled that Outside In Literary & Travel Magazine has welcomed my piece, "Unchartered Tourism," into its Winter 2013/14 Issue.
On my recent honeymoon in Italy, my husband, Douglas, and I found ourselves a football field's distance away from the Costa Concordia, just eleven days after the historic parbuckling operation to right the ship. The piece explores my prior perception of tourism as a New Yorker, and how this striking personal experience changed it. Happy reading! Oh, and if you so desire, you can help me feel good and follow me on my spiffy new Twitter account. |
